Hundreds of protesters attacked a police station of the Mossos d’Esquadra (Catalan regional police) in Vic on Tuesday night, during a protest in support of imprisoned Spanish rapper Pablo Hasel.
The protesters threw stones and other objects against the windows of the building, causing significant material damage.
Similar protests in support of the artist have taken place in several Spanish cities, and many of them have ended in clashes with the security forces.
The rapper was arrested on Tuesday by the Catalan Police at the University of Lleida, where he barricaded himself in the building the day before, along with dozens of supporters, to resist arrest.
According to a court ruling, Pablo Hasel faces a nine-month jail term for publishing ‘tweets with videos that incited violence,’ as good as messages that the magistrates consider to have “exalted terrorism and humiliated the Crown and other state institutions, such as the Armed Forces and the police forces.”
